The two met when Charlie caught a Chicks show at Gruene Hall, a renowned Texas dance hall. He and Emily hooked up again at Fan Fair during the Sony Music Nashville show, where, Charlie says, "we were both so nervous around each other that we drank so much that I think we didn't have any choice but to fall in love." Their first was while they were watching a movie on Pay-Per-View in Charlie's hotel room. Emily told CMT's Country Couples, "Before the credits were even over, he leaned over and gave me the first kiss. Once again, it was after a game of quarters so it probably wasn't as romantic as you know, it should have been. The romance came later!" Charlie said he knew by the third date he wanted to marry her. Charlie was driving Emily to a vacation spot. He handed her the ring. She started crying and said yes (of course). Two days later they realized that Charlie never really asked her in the traditional way. :)
